SUMMARY:Richmond Barracks & Goldenbridge Cemetery Guided Tour - BOOKED OUT
DESCRIPTION:*** Sorry – Booked Out*** \nPlease contact Richmond Barracks for details of other tours and times. \nMonday 3rd October and Saturday 8th October at 2pm \nStep back in time to experience the mutli-layered history of Richmond Barracks. Visit the soldiers’ gymnasium where insurgents were held after the 1916 Rising and where the leaders were court court martialed\, see the hand-made commemorative quilt created by 77 contemporary women to remember the 77 women held at the barracks in 1916 and visit the old school room. The rooms\, the corridors\, the furniture in Richmond Barracks all tell a story – what were conditions like for the rebels imprisoned here? What was it like to raise a family in Keogh’s Square? What was it like to go to school in St. Michael’s CBS? \nFounded by Daniel O’Connell in 1828\, Goldenbridge cemetery was the first Catholic cemetery in Ireland. The cemetery closed in 1869 but is now part of the Richmond Barracks tour. See the graves of a former Taoiseach and a child killed by a bullet in 1916 and hear tales of guard dogs and bodysnatching in this hidden garden cemetery in Dublin 8 \nBooking is required as places are limited. Please contact Richmond Barracks at (01) 2228400 or email richmondbarracks@dublincity.ie \nEvents are liable to change. To stay informed of any changes in the Festival programme\, please sign up to our mailing list \n
