Suffragism was the conviction that votes should be extended to women. In February 1918 the Representation of the People Act was passed and women who were over 30 years of age were finally allowed to vote. Eleven months later, the voters of Dublin elected Constance Markievicz, the first woman to win a seat at Westminster.
