The British Popular Press and the New Irish Free State

This talk will look at how Anglo-Irish relations were renegotiated in the pages of the British tabloids in the early years of Irish independence and examines the place of these publications and their discourses in contemporary British and Irish societies.
Elspeth Payne is an Irish Research Council funded doctoral candidate in Trinity College Dublin and former recipient of the R. B. McDowell Fellowship. Her research looks at the presentation of Anglo-Irish connections in British newspapers between 1922 and 1932.
