AFTER BLOODY SUNDAY: MURDERS, RAIDS, AND ROUNDUPS
With Cathy Scuffil, Historian-in-Residence
20/09/2020 at 4:00pm
The well documented events of Bloody Sunday were followed by a series of lesser known, but equally impactful events. This talk looks at a selection of incidents affecting ordinary citizens in the South Dublin City areas, all carried out in reprisal for Bloody Sunday. Using a range of different archival sources, from personal family accounts, pension application records, newspaper accounts to British Army records, a better picture emerges of daily life for Dubliners in this most difficult time of our history.
Catherine Scuffil is the Dublin City Council Historian in residence for Dublin South Central and for Dublin South East. She has a MA in Local History from Maynooth University. Catherine has written a number of local history books and an abridged version of her MA thesis was awarded the Old Dublin Society’s silver medal in 2018.
