The social and economic problems of Canada’s Native peoples or First Nations, suggest that something went wrong as they attempted to negotiate a place in the emerging modern state. In this presentation Brian will provide a survey of the history of policies towards Native peoples by the Canadian state with a focus on land, treaties, repressive measures, and the dark legacy of residential schools.
