With Cathy Scuffil, Historian-in-Residence

16/09/2020 at 5:00pm

The single biggest difficulty encountered by the Rathmines Township was in obtaining an adequate and suitable water supply for the thirsty citizens of the ever expanding Township. This talk looks at one initiative by the Township to obtain a supply from the Grand Canal in the Gallenstown area of Ballyfermot, and highlights the evidence of these works still in the area, hiding daily in plain sight.

Catherine Scuffil is the Dublin City Council Historian in residence for Dublin South Central and for Dublin South East. She has a MA in Local History from Maynooth University. Catherine has written a number of local history books and an abridged version of her MA thesis was awarded the Old Dublin Society’s silver medal in 2018.
