Beyond the war: Nazi propaganda campaigns on Spanish soil during World War II
29 September, 2016 @ 1:10 pm - 2:00 pm
By 1941, the German Embassy in Spain was the Reich’s largest, with 500 people working in Madrid and 42 consulates on Spanish soil. Why did the Nazi regime devote such attention to a technically neutral country? This lecture aims to explaining the reasons behind the phenomenon through the analysis of the German propaganda campaigns designed for Spain.
Dr. Mercedes Peñalba is a lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University and is also an Irish Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre for War Studies, University College Dublin. Her work focuses on the design of Nazi propaganda for Spain during World War II.
