Educating the Irish Child – talk in Richmond Barracks

6 October, 2016 @ 1:00 pm

This talk will examine some of the ways Irish society thought about children and education during the long nineteenth-century. Why were boys and girls educated differently? What was it like to be enrolled in a Dublin school? Mary Hatfield will explore these questions about Irish childhood in the setting of the former Christian Brothers School in Richmond Barracks.

Mary Hatfield is a Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholar at Trinity College Dublin. Her work focuses on constructions of middle-class Irish childhood and experiences of childhood and experiences of childhood during the nineteenth-century.

Booking is required.  Please contact Richmond Barracks at richmondbarracks@dublincity.ie or phone +353 1 222 8400
