Fingal Deaths during the First World War
October 10 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Approximately 210,000 Irishmen volunteered for the British Forces between 1914 and 1918; of these, around 35,000 died, with over 6,000 of these from Dublin. This talk will tell the story of Fingal natives who died during the Great War and illustrate the complex relationship between Ireland and the British military.
Dr. Bernard Kelly completed his PhD in NUI Galway and postdoctoral work at the University of Edinburgh. He was previously a Historian in Residence for Dublin City Council, Fingal County Council’s Research Historian and is currently editor of the soon to be re-published Fingal Studies Local History journal.
