From shoebox to Window Box Remembrance of WW1 in Ireland
September 30 @ 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm

A lecture on the remembrance of WW1 in Ireland 1919 and present day. Including the highs and lows of remembrance during the war of independence and civil war and the challenges the fledgling Irish Government faced with remembrance services in the 1920s and 30s.
Who were the ex-service men and what challenges did they face?
This talk will explore the demise and rebirth of remembrance through the life of the National War Memorial Gardens in Islandbridge, and the emergence of WW1 awareness through new memorials, exhibitions, national media, education, and societies.
What contribution did remembrance of WW1 make to reconciliation and the Irish Peace process and where does remembrance sit today?
