We have all heard of people bringing tea bags on holidays abroad, or know people who are not themselves until their first coffee of the day. These two beverages are so part and parcel of our daily life that it is hard to think of a time when people did not drink them.

This talk in Rathfarnham Castle will explore the introduction of tea and coffee into Europe and discuss: – The thriving coffee culture in 17th century Dublin – Tea’s central role in 18th century trade and politics – The coffee cans and tea bowls found at Rathfarnham Castle
