Helga’s role in Irish Natural History – Ireland’s First Scientific Vessel (Online)

October 6, 2023 @ 1:15 pm - 1:45 pm

Join National Museum of Ireland – Natural History Zoology Curator, Dr Amy Geraghty, for an online talk exploring the role of Ireland’s first scientific vessel in Irish natural history.

The first purpose built Irish scientific vessel was the famous ship, The Helga II. It was later named Muirchú and is better known for its involvement in the 1916 Easter Rising and other historical events.

This talk will explore the ship’s less well-known role in Irish scientific research.

This role would also lead to the collection and donation of specimens to the Museum which will be the focus of this talk.

Note: This will be a closed YouTube live event with a pre-recorded talk and live Q&A. Once you have the link (Register via Eventbrite) it is possible to watch back and the event will be made public at a later date. Approved captions in English will be available.
