Marlborough House – State Collusion With Abuse 1944 to 1972
October 10 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
In the mid-1940s Marlborough House was set up by the Department of Education as a place of detention for young boys. It was the only centre of its type managed directly by the Department of Education, but it was also registered by the Minister for Justice as a Place of Detention.
In the course of its existence from 1944 to 1972, the two Departments were more engaged in avoiding responsibility for the institution, despite repeated claims of neglect and physical and sexual abuse of the boys, than they were in caring for the children. Dublin City Historian in Residence, Mary Muldowney presents this talk.
