“No Blacks, No Irish, No Dogs”: The Irish in Multicultural Britain
October 2 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
ONLINE TALK
Writer and historian Kieran Connell sheds new light on the experiences of the hundreds of thousands of Irish immigrants who made lives for themselves in Britain over the second half of the twentieth century.
Drawing on his new book, Multicultural Britain: A People’s History, Connell explores the discrimination the Irish experienced and how this compared to the racism that was faced by other formerly colonised people.
In focusing on a complicated relationship between one woman of Irish descent and her Asian lover, Connell highlights the often-overlooked role played by Irish immigrants in the making of multicultural Britain.
Presented by Dublin Festival of History.
