Reflections on the History of Crumlin, Drimnagh and Walkinstown

September 23 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

The War of Independence was played out on many stages. Local to Crumlin, Drimnagh and Walkinstown a number of incidents took place in what was then very rural areas. The single biggest event was the raid and burning the well-known landmark, the Halfway House Public House.

This video examines why this took place and considers other events that occurred in the lead up to that night. It also places the area into the context of the time. The Halfway House was located on the route to the then under construction aerodrome at Baldonnel, where the Black and Tans and Auxies were based. The story is told through the eyes of those who were there, using witness statements, newspaper articles, images and other archival material.

The video was produced by Videocraft Club, Perrystown Community Centre, Dublin 12.
