Richmond Barracks: Creating a Timeline
October 5 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
Justine Murphy created a physical and digital timeline of Dublin’s Richmond Barracks and this has offered an opportunity to illustrate it’s long footprint using drawings, newspapers, prints, photographs, audio and maps.
This talk explores the challenge of telling that story in visual form while at the same time bringing you through the history of the barracks, including: the poet Francis Ledwidge, the 1916 Rising, social housing and education. It is now home to creative workshops, talks, a garden and Inchicore public library.
Biography
With a background in the arts Justine is interested in the intersection between social history, culture and how it functioned for people and society. While at the National College of Art and Design she explored material culture and social constructs which led her to working in museums. Having studied history in Dublin City University where she focused on early Irish photojournalism, she continues to enjoy interpreting history and heritage for the public.
