The Development of Women’s Soccer in Twentieth Century Dublin
October 12 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

This paper will examine the first attempts to promote women’s soccer in Dublin, beginning with failed efforts in the late nineteenth century and in the 1920s.
It was not until the 1970s that the game took off in earnest with the organisation of league and cup competitions central to this. Despite this, gaining support remained difficult and this paper will also look at the attitude of the Football Association of Ireland in the 1980s and 1990s towards developing the international team along with local competitions.
Dr Conor Curran will present this talk.
