To illustrate Ireland and India’s connection, this talk by Indian MP Jawhar Sircar will focus on the contributions of two Irish women – Margaret Elizabeth Noble who later adopted the name Sister Nivedita, and Annie Besant – during the years of India’s struggle for independence from British rule.
Jawhar Sircar is a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Parliament of India. A retired bureaucrat, Sircar is a prominent public speaker and writer, having published articles on cultural, historical and anthropological subjects in books, journals, national and international newspapers. His focus is on social history.
