On an equal footing with all: Ireland at the League of Nations, 1923–1946

October 3, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

In September 1923, Ireland joined the League of Nations: the global organisation created after World War One to oversee international security and disarmament.

What was the League of Nations? Who was involved in it and how did Ireland’s membership impact the League?

Chaired by former diplomat Rory Montgomery, this panel discussion with Dr John Gibney, Dr Michael Kennedy and Zoë Reid will debate Ireland’s entry to the League of Nations and its presence in Geneva from its early beginnings to the final years leading up to the League’s dissolution in 1946.

This event is presented by the National Archives in partnership with the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Royal Irish Academy (Documents in Irish Foreign Policy series).
